The virus’s ripples
The daycare next door to our apartment has presumably gone out of business. Each time I look down from our back window on the 2nd floor, I see an old man in a surgical mask bagging up dozens of plastic playground toys. Yesterday, he ripped up all the turf that covered the entire backyard like carpeting. This morning, there’s a mountain of black garbage bags on the sidewalk alongside a mountain of clear bags full of toys. Before this outbreak, I never considered how devastating it could be for everyone to simply stay home, but I continue to realize ways in which this virus’s ripples are disrupting everything.
