AIR 2.0 and Flash Player 10.1 are live

It’s a big day in Adobeland—both AIR 2.0 and Flash Player 10.1 make their debuts. Lucky for me, they arrive just in time for the soon-to-be-released DestroyTwitter 2.0, which relies on a few fancy features in the new runtime. I’m planning for a June 21st launch, so mark your calendars and make sure you install AIR.

Merry Christmas! I’ve been working away at DestroyTwitter for the past couple days. Unfortunately, when I had anything to share I posted on my Twitter rather than here. I’ll try to keep it balanced from now on. You can certainly follow me just in case. My family headed to Pottstown to visit my grandfather, which gave me a chance to take a shot of this calendar he has. It’s actually what inspired my calendar screensaver and I thought it’d be neat to show. Sometimes, the really good ideas come from ordinary places—in this case, a really folksy gift he got a few Christmases ago.

Calendar bug fix, PC version available

My calendar screensaver has been a big hit lately. Unfortunately, Luke notified me of a bug that could possibly freeze the screensaver on the 31st. I forgot to add a one in the days, so each month starts at zero. I fixed it right away and bought the pro version of SWF2Saver so all of you PC users can be happy. I’m all about releasing my work for free, but if you feel compelled to donate a few dollars, I’ll be so thankful.

Downloads page

I realized that certain goodies I posted to download aren’t being seen because they’re on the next page of posts. As a result, there is now a Downloads page where you can find those goodies. At the moment, there’s only the Calendar screensaver, but I’m sure there will be more up later. Also, I might put the most recent project releases there. In any case, check it out and if you benefit greatly from my applications, show you care.

I noticed a peak in my Google Analytics report this morning and the cause was a blog post by Kazo Kell. I can’t exactly translate Estonian and neither can any free translation service on the web, but I think I got a basic idea of the post. It’s a top 10 list for screen savers, and my Calendar came in at number 5. Now, the only two words I could decipher in the description of mine was elegantne and minimalistlik, so it seems to be a pretty generous write-up. Thanks, Kazo.

Following up on the last post, I decided to take the plunge. But rather than shell out a whopping $249 for Screentime, I went with SWF2Saver for a mere $19.95. It does everything I’d want from a screensaver compiler and then some. I can include assets, design a personalized installer window, and set an expiration date if I want. You can download the screensaver here. I’ve decided not to charge anything, but if you feel generous, donate a dollar or two.

I started playing around with Astro (Flash Player 10 beta) and I’m really impressed with how simple 3-dimensional positioning is—there’s a lot of potential. I began developing an unusual clock, but I decided to put it on hold until the stable release of Flash Player is available. I returned to 9 and whipped this calendar up in the meantime. I’m actually pretty happy with how it turned out considering how simple it is. Maybe I’ll make the plunge and get Screentime so I can make it into a screensaver. If I do, expect to see it up to download.
