I have 4 GB Memory but I’m often running 25+ tabs in Firefox, Windows Media Player, Adobe Fireworks and Photoshop, DestroyTwitter and Windows Live Messenger at the same time. The list still doesn’t include the background services
Of course apps use more and more memory as programmers compete for users’ approval; your DestroyTwitter seems economical along those lines, as its affect on API. Other apps may be flashier, but none, IMHO, so well thought out for usability.
Now I’m not a coder but I understand and very much appreciate the idea that software should be as efficient as possible. Imagine if everything we designed and engineered had this mindset as a top priority.
I do have a lot of memory but I use twitter a lot. I am happy to use some of that memory to see nice pictures and slick graphics in my twitter application. However, if I only need it running in the background the option to cut that memory usage would be neat.
you know how it is with CS4 running at full speed + FF + whatever else like iCal, Thunderbird, etc can be like.
I don’t have a lot of memory, but do use a lot of apps. The first choice applies more, but I hope that will soon change.

Answer #2.
The memory consumption of DT was one of the reasons for me to switch to Tweetie.

We wouldn’t need to ever “Go Green.”
When you do graphics for print & web (CS4) you need ever bit of ram you can get.
Thanks again for keeping this a top priority for DestroyTwitter!!
Can’t wait to see what you do for Adobe!

When you have Virtual Machines, browsers, etc running on a certain amount of RAM, it matters.
