DestroyTwitter 1.7.0 Beta release

*Please note, if you’re having issues logging in, you’ll need to temporarily move the settings folder located at Documents/DestroyToday/DestroyTwitter. 1.7.0 will create a new folder, where you can drag over your groups folder into your account folder.

Today, I release DestroyTwitter 1.7.0 Beta. It’s a huge release, but not in the sense of a single major feature—it has a handful. Let’s dive right in.

DestroyTwitter 1.7.0 Beta / Trends

The Search canvas now features a trends button that prompts the most recently talked about keywords. Clicking a keyword will show tweets pertaining to it.

DestroyTwitter 1.7.0 Beta / Lookup

I added a lookup button to the People canvas where you can select a friend or type in a username to show their profile.

DestroyTwitter 1.7.0 Beta / Preferences

Since Twitter now allows 150 API calls/hour, I changed the refresh intervals to increment by 30 seconds instead of a minute. I also updated the remaining calls to be more accurate in regards to accounts that are whitelisted. A new Settings Directory preference is available in case you’d like to move the DestroyTwitter folder. With this available, you can choose your Dropbox as the location, allowing you to sync your settings with multiple computers. Due to popular demand, I added a Drop Shadow preference, so people using the Custom Chrome, but don’t want the shadow can turn it off.

DestroyTwitter 1.7.0 Beta / Redesigned notifications preferences

Lastly, I redesigned the notifications preferences, so you can enable/disable any of the canvases. This also cut down on memory usage without the need for extra checkbox graphics.

There are a dozen more small features and bug fixes. Be sure to check them out.

  1. Please add a multi account feature next. @ginos

  2. Please add a multi account feature next [2] @djahelson

  3. Why would you need multi account ?

  4. Thanks, Jonnie. Thanks for the drop shadow preference, I love the custom window chrome, but the drop shadow… It made me more than once click in the wrong window…

  5. How do I disable Notifications? It’s driving me crazy.

I’m running two monitors, DestroyTwitter is on monitor 2, the notifications are appearing on monitor 1.

None of the canvases are highlighted under he Notifications settings, but I still get these annoying pop ups. I’ve tried everything and restarted the app a few times, but they’re still showing.

    Any ideas?

  6. @joran95 Because some of us have accounts for our job, a specific website, etc. I have my “personal” account and one for the website I run that is specific to it’s goals and it’s users.

  7. The new notification settings are great, but I think the interface colors are a little confusing from a design standpoint.

Throughout the interface you use the green-blue (I’m slightly color blind; I never get the color names right) color for “active information” like buttons, links, chosen settings and so on. But on both Services and Notifications you went with bold white text for chosen settings and green-blue for inactive, which makes it very inconsistent. I believe it would work better if you inverted those colors.

Along the same lines, it would be nice if you could highlight what is the currently active theme.

If I may give you suggestions for next features, I would love some option to re-order the tabs. Specially now with the new dynamic Excluded Users group (really, really thanks for that one), and with the great option to have Searches update dynamicaly as well, I would really appreciate the option to have Home, Groups and Search as my frontend, since I don’t get that many Messages, and Replies also are shown on Home.

Thanks a lot for the amazing work. Cheers.

  8. Hi there, Jonnie.

As you may or may not know, the brazilian internet users quickly fall in love for Twitter. I made an account myself (@oliverbxk). I’m one of the writers at a brazilian website called “Baixaki” (that could be translated to something like “Download here”). Recently I found out about Destroy Twitter and presented the idea to my superiors about publishing it in our website. They aproved, I wrote the text about it and published. If you’d like to check it out, take a look at the following direct link to your program in our catalog: http://www.baixaki.com.br/download/destroytwitter.htm

BTW, Baixaki is the biggest brazilian website for downloads. We have users from the whole country, as well as Latin America and portuguese speaking countries such as Portugal, etc.

    Hope you enjoy our review.

    Regards,

    Oliver
    Writer @ Baixaki team.

PS.: I am also a language student looking forward to apply what I’ve learned in the real world (or the virtual world). If you allow me, I can translate DestroyTwitter to portuguese, so portuguese speaking countries, such as Brazil, would take greater advantage of the software. Please think about it and feel free to contact me by email.

  9. Nice. Thanks for fixing it.
